let's talk

Let's talk about the seaside sweater, shall we? First of all, I love this sweater. It is from Twinkle's Big City Knits. The yarn is twinkle handknits cruise, and it is lovely to work with. 70% silk, 30% cotton. The sweater is knit in the round to the armhole, holding four strands together throughout. Very fast, pretty easy. I find it a little difficult using size 17 needles. I feel like I am all thumbs. I made a few adjustments. Longer sleeves are usually a must for me. I also knew I needed to increase from below the bust line to the shoulder, so I knit an extra inch.
I really love the scalloped bottom. This is accomplished with yarn overs.
However, when you see the whole picture on me, it just doesn't work. See, still too short in the sleeves, and it cuts me right through the center of the bust. I think the whole sweater just looks too small, even through the arms.
I contemplated ripping it out. Ahhh...I would rather start all over then frog this. And, since I have two sisters making the exact same sweater (imagine that) I decided to just give it to my sister, Lisa. She is the oldest, but has the smallest body. Michelle and I have the exact same body size, so she will have to make her own. (sorry shell) Lisa doesn't seem to find much time to knit, so I don't think she will mind not having to make this, and will be so happy to wear it.
Now I just have to tell my sister to mail me her yarn. I think I will tell her to take her time. :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

It's very cute! I love your choice of colors... Don't you hate that UGH feeling? At least you know someone who can wear it!

It's truly a fabulous sweater and looks good on you. You are such a generous person and am sure, your sister will appreciate it. Isn't it nice to have someone you can share/trade clothes with???

I would kill to have anything look that fabulous on me! I end up giving a lot of failed sweaters to my sister (younger and smaller). Alas...

lucky lisa! i am sure the way you can churn out projects lickety split and this being on 17s it will be done in no time!
by the way...when holding 4 yarns together, do you find you get a lot of knots? this is the problem i keep having with my sweater...

The sweater is just beautiful! especially the colors you chose. Too bad the sizing was off so much. I think your sis will love it though.

Looks cute on you! I have heard from several people that the designer sized all the patterns in that book too small. The advice given to me was to go up the next size. So you are not alone. :)

have to say i love this sweater. ordinarily i would think someone knitting a sweater with a navy stripe right through the bust needs their head examined but it looks good. i don't even think the sweater looks too small on you. but if you're uncomfortable in it better to knit another one.

anyway i think this sweater looks very modern. and good on you.

The sweater is beautiful - as others have commented, I hear the sizes in the book run quite small... At least your sister will love it!

Happy Knitting!!

I think that is AWESOME!!! Oh Man, it's too cool!

I didn't notice the bust line until you pointed it out and the arms, you could always crochet a trim on them like the neck line??? I understand how you feel though and if you are not completely happy with it it does sound like you have good solution. Giving that to your sister and then knitting it again with her yarn - that's perfect! :)

This is a very pretty sweater, but I do agree . . the sleeves on you are just a bit too short -- not short enough to justify saying you were going for 3/4 sleeves either. ;) If your sister doesn't want it or if you decide to keep it, how about crocheting a little cuff on the sleeves to make them appear a little longer?

I also love the bottom half of this sweater! If you were to do it again, would you use different colors or different yarn . . or do the same?

it's beautiful, how sad it didn't fit quite right...that happens to me all the time. I have become partial to shawls and socks...it has eliminated the ugh factor for the most part:)

Couldn't you block it and stretch it a little? The colors are so good on you and it is close to fitting...if not, your sis is one lucky lady!

So pretty! I think you rocked that sweater anyway, but you made the right decision if you weren't going to be happy with it. That's going to be such a treat for your sister, too...now she'll think of you whenever she wears it!

You did such a great job... and if you hadn't mentioned the fit issues.. I wouldn't have noticed... well at least your sister will enjoy it.

Good thing to have multiple sisters.
I like it, but I see what you mean about the wrists. I have the same problem. Wish I had the bust issue, but alas.

Very pretty sweater! That is the worst feeling when you finish something and it's not quite right. You're lucky you have a sister to enjoy it!

jenna said...

I know how you feel. I hate looking at a finished knit and going, "meh." But how nice that you can switcheroo with your sis!

Alisha said...

It is a cute sweater but I dunderstand your need for longer sleeves. That would drive me batty. Looks great...too bad they didn't come out a tad longer.

Oh, I think it turned out super cute. You sis is one lucky girl!
