trap

This made me so happy, I just had to share it with you......................... this morning there were about 20 flies trapped! .....................
Yesterday, I was speaking on the phone with my friend Betsy, when I mentioned how aggravating those darn fruit flies were. She then proceeded to tell me how to build a trap.
Take a small water bottle fill with about two tablespoons apple cider vinegar. Make a small funnel with a piece of paper insert it into the top. The fruit flies go down the funnel, and can't get out. Trapped! You then can either take the water bottle outside and let those little flies go, or you can put the lid on the bottle and throw it away. Amazing!
It took everything I had not to decorate my bottle and funnel. How about making a cozy for the bottle?
Really, try this, it really works.

Very handy trick to trap those nasty flies. I had to put my fruit in the refrigerator and put away the fruit basket because the flies were driving me crazy. I will definetely try it because I can't bear to eat cold bananas!

A Friend to Knit With - it's not just for knitting anymore! ;)

What a great idea and so funny that you would want to make it prettier.

That's a brilliant idea!
do you think it would work with just regular vinegar? I can use one at the office.

Isn't it amazing when something so simple works so well. Those little buggers are such a nuisance this year!

I am going to try this tomorrow. My office has a serious fruit fly problem and everything we've tried so far doesn't seem to work.

My friend who is a chef had a similar method. She said at night before you go to bed pour some apple cider vinegar down the sink drain and in the morning they will be gone. Down the drain, literally. It's the simple things, really.

Oh my gosh, what a great idea! I love home remedies for things... I'm always afraid to have poisons and such around because of the doggies (and the nephew and neice!). I think a cozy is a great idea - all stripey and cute. Perfect!

Will it work for mosquitoes?

Awesome idea!! It took us weeks to get rid of them last year! I *hate* refrigerating my fruit!

Very clever and I can attest to the fact that it worked. It takes removing all other more attractive foods, but still some of the slower fruit flies got caught. Although I did put my bananas in a cloth bag and that helped a lot to keep them off the fruit.

I love your chevron too by the way. I really liked the length. The colours are really fun and so are the ways you photographed it. Excellent!

I was rolling on the floor with laughter at the comment of decorating the bottle - That would be my exact idea too! So funny!

We got lucky and had a caterpiller in a jar. Apparently the fruit flies were attracted to him and then got stuck in the jar, so I took it outside. I will try to remember this awesome tip though because I bet it will happen again!

Thank you for sharing the tip!
