summertime saturdays.4

Banana's that look like this in our house, mean one thing.
Banana bread.  I have my mothers recipe, that I have always made.  But this morning, I tried Heather's recipe.  And wow.  It is a keeper.
I doubled the recipe, except for the banana's.  (I only had three.)  And made one with nuts.  One without.
We slathered it with cream cheese.  And ate almost both loaves.
I then slathered the kids with sunscreen, so they could all go to the pool.  I think this is the first time I have been home alone since school was out.  What to do?  The possibilities are endless.
Enjoy your Saturday.....and the rest of the weekend.

I love banana bread and make it quite often. One loaf goes so quickly in our house though, especially when it's still warm.

Banana bread is so tasty. What a great way to use up bananas that have started to head out the door.
Time alone, heavenly, enjoy the opportunity.

My husband makes banana bread every Christmas...only he also puts in chopped up marrachino cherries and chocolate chips and bakes them in soup cans. You clean the cans of course and slather the insides with either cooking spray or whatever else you might use to grease pans. Fill them 2/3 full and bake as directed in recipe...but watch them and test for doneness with a toothpick. VERY yummy and family expects this every year!!! They're pretty too cute into "rounds"!!!

Your pictures took me back about a decade - my boys used to love banana bread, with butter and honey. They haven't eaten it for ages though.

I made a banana bread this weekend too - using my mom's recipe. It is the best way to use bananas! I hope you enjoyed your alone time - a rare thing with kids home in summer!

banana bread questions:

>Your oven: gas or electric?
>Your bread pan: what is it made of (glass, metal, silicone)?

My husband uses pyrex pans in a gas oven and the bottom is always over cooked :-(
