the weekend

Camping on Assateague Island.
Desolate beaches.
Wild ponies that roam free.
Charred dogs.
Knitting. Always knitting.
Everything cooked over the fire.
Swimming. Fishing. Beach football. Crabbing. Exploring.
It really was so beautiful.

I spent time on and near the island in my early 20's. It is a magical place. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos - they brought back good memories for me.

Oh wow, you brought back memories. I grew up in WV and going to Chincoteague/Assateague was almost a yearly vacation in my family. It was my favorite place! The last time I went was in college and it had gotten quite touristy and busy but still held that same magic! Thanks for sharing!

I love Assateague! I live so close but never seem to find time to go. Your blog post has inspired me to make the trip soon- I love it in the off season.

I've always wanted to visit Assateague. It looks just as beautiful as I've imagined. K x

Whoa. OK, I guess I could go camping there. That looks WAY better than the woods here...

Thinking about camping there in the spring. Never been. Which is the best place to camp? Looks gorgeous!

Lovely setting for a lovely weekend! Oh, how I'd love to knit on the beach with a warm mug of coffee!

Jodi said...

Oh, lucky you! I've been wanting to go there ever since I read "Misty of Chincoteague."

Alison said...

Oh, my goodness... Wild ponies?! How cool is that?! What an incredible time- seriously makes me want a real getaway (not one of those fake getaways to St. Paul like we had a couple weeks back! that wasn't so relaxing, grrr...)

Oh, and I love charred hot dogs, yep, I'm one that will send a dog back if there isn't some good charring, hehe.

Knitting on a beatiful beach looks so much better than knitting in a cold van during soccer practice on a Minnesota October afternoon, lol!!

Happy knitting-
ali

Ah, I relaxed just looking at your photos from my city-based desk. I went camping for the first (!) time this summer (blogged here: http://morewithles.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/i-am-shocked/). We loved it and can't wait to go back!

awesome shots - i love assateague - it's a nice change of pace from the madness of going down the ocean - we go camping there all the time - if only they could turn off the bugs :)

Beautiful! Some of our best memories with our children and friends are from camping on Cumberland Island in Georgia. http://www.nps.gov/cuis/index.htm. You are wise to make the time and get away!

Okay, that is seriously breathtaking. Doesn't look like any campsite I've ever seen. Where is the guy named "Bubba"?

Oh my, my daughter would be SO ENVIOUS! We have read and learned about this island for so long (Misty, etc)... It seems to hark back to so many childhood fantasies. Thanks for sharing!

Kelly said...

That's awesome - we were just at Assateague a few weeks back. We love it there, especially after Labor Day! Glad you had a great time, our weather was very terrible, most of the campsites were completely flooded and un-campable. Thankfully we found one and made the best of it! It's gorgeous there!

Your camping trip photos are beautiful. We always were camping in the summers, but it was often by necessity rather than just for fun. I wonder where there is camping (but not now) in my area.

Looks like you had lots of fun on your getaway! I love your "cookie of the week" section too!

I would like to invite you to take part in a blog tour that I'm about to launch for my new book: It's In the Bag. Would you be interested in doing a Q&A interview, or perhaps a book review? I'm open to your ideas too!

I hope you'll consider it!

Oh Leslie, that is my sort of island. There is a place like that off the west coast of Ireland where I spent a lot of time when I was younger. Your children will treasure those memories.

Your weblog is fine. I simply need to touch upon the design. Its too loud. Its doing way an excessive amount of and it takes away from what youve bought to say --which I feel is de facto important. I dont know if you happen to didnt suppose that your phrases could hold everyones attention, however you have been wrong. Anyway, in my language, there usually are not a lot good source like this.

I think if I were a student at my school I'd be more excited than I am as a teacher. When my dear friends Candalyn and Daphne called me stating that we would not be having school today I was kind of bummed. I think I'm really weird. I LOVE what I do and I was really put out that we wouldn't be going to work today because of the major wild fire in Herriman. Check out photos at www.ksl.com
It is nice to be home and work on some projects that need some serious attention and time :)

Yeah, somebody has been promoted for doing Digital Media Sales, their genuine best and being themselves (is that the right word, or would it be “themself?”... not sure). I am pretty pumped. I seriously have a hard time expressing the excitement that has been blossoming inside of me for the last couple weeks. I wonder if it will be okay if I tell the story. I guess my store manager won't mind. Oh man I am so funny.
