little bits

I read Abby's post, saw these cookies, and the next thing you know I was in the kitchen making them. You probably have all the ingredients in your pantry. If you are like me, you can get started now. Instead of making them giant, I made them "normal" size. And, I did them as a slice and bake, cause I pretty much love making cookies that way. Cut off a few. Sure. Cut off many. Sure. Cut off the ends and eat the dough. Absolutely.
I recently purchased a jar of vanilla sugar (vanilla beans mixed with sugar! genius!) from penzeys spices. Sprinkled it on the top. They were so good. Will definitely be making these again. And again. And again.
Libby's new girly mitts designed by the very talented, Ali. Libby loves them and I loved making them. Go ahead, see if you can find a "girly" and yarn in your stash. (My "girly", age 12, was almost too big for this pattern.)
Of course, Libby didn't want cookies after school. Instead she wanted a bagel. With cream cheese and jam. I wanted pics of the mitts I made for my friend, Noreen. Uh oh. Sort of dangerous to photograph them with that food. But they made it through. Completely unharmed. I LOVE this pattern. For both mitts I used cascade 220.

Have a great one!

  2. I know a girly who would love those mitts, even though we're rapidly leaving mitt season around here. Maybe I'll make them and save them for next year.

We made ginger molasses cookies last night. Yum. Today we're doing lemon bars and lemon curd.

  7. Oh! This is perfect! We'll be seeing some extended family this weekend and a little cousin turning 7 - I was just commenting to my husband this morning, wondering what I could make for her. These will be perfect! Thank you for sharing.

By the way, I don't know that I've commented on your blog before but wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it. Not too wordy, but such nice little posts here and there with yummy recipes and patterns that I always fall in love with. I'm always excited to see a new post of yours in my reader.

  8. Just love your photo stream. I had a bracelet made of Keep Calm and Carry On for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it! Also love the mitts and have lots of Cascade 220 in my stash but have never tackled cables. Wonder if I could do it? Thanks for the inspiration! Still snowing here. Have to go recover a "cricket chair" for a customer! Wish me luck!

  11. Those cookies look so good!! Love both pair of mitts - I've made lots of evangeline lately - also casade 220 - they work up so quickly and are so much fun. I keep giving them away, though. I need to make some for myself - only trouble is that yarn comes in such great colors!

  13. You can make your own vanilla sugar really easily. Just stick a bean in your sugar and that's it! Even if you've used the seeds it works. Great mitts!

  24. awwwwhhhhh......and I'm trying to be so good! If I would just learn to share my cookies more, instead of eating them all myself...it wouldn't be so bad :).....off to my yarn stash...I just finshed the "toasty" fingerless gloves for my olympic challenge and those mitts look so cute... it looks like we're getting more snow...so I'll whip up more pair before spring.

  25. Very cute mitts, and I most definitely need to try that cookie recipe. Isn't Penzey's the best? I love their Thai seasoning blend, their high-fat natural cocoa powder, and their Caribbean seasoning blend. I used to live just a few blocks from their Madison, WI location, and it's such a disappointment to me not to be able to just walk over there now.
