I sat outside yesterday (in the heat, drinking hot coffee, alpaca in my hands) working on the second sleeve, watching an intense game of frisbee. Don't know why I didn't buy them that white plastic disc earlier in the summer. Who knew it would be such a time filling hit. Anyhow, about this sweater, I started it on July 19th. (Do you do that? Write down your start date? I have been doing that for years. Always love to see how long a sweater takes.) It was started while my slouchy was blocking, before photos were taken. On size 10.5 needles this thing is practically knitting itself. I plan on finishing it this weekend. Hoping to find three fantastic buttons for the finishing touch.

Oh! We made ice cream sandwiches that took us all week. Only because we made the dough and could never quite find a couple of hours to finish them off. I'll be sure to show you soon.
Hope your weekend is filled with a little or a lot of the things you love. I think I'll make more pesto.

  1. Good morning, Leslie! We are similar people only my sweater dress is not knitting itself. It's going a lot faster than the alpaca sweater I did on 5s. I'm stash building right now as I try to remain monogamous with the dress. My mind wanders to the next projects though... I'm so glad to see your latest projects.

  2. I like that sweater a lot but I have a lot of other knitting to catch up on before I even consider it. I found the pattern I want to make for Tristan's Christmas sweater (I give each of them a sweater every Christmas) and realized I still hadn't finished last year's!

  4. i love that color, leslie! i almost bought that yarn in a light apple green while in telluride, but there wasn't enough. it is so soft! that sweater is going to be comfy.

  5. Pretty pretty pretty! A size 10.5 and bulky yarn sounds like my kind of project. Love those quick ones. I'm itching to cast on another project but am holding off till I finish this kicking sack. The coffee would have been traded for a nice cool iced beverage. ;) Stay cool!

  6. Very nice. I love making ice cream sandwiches with super rich chocolate chip cookies. I haven't made them in ages, so I should get on that for next weekend.

  7. Hi leslie! Looks like you are enjoying your last few weeks of summer! Can't wait to see this sweater finished. I knitting a baby sweater at the moment and next will be a sweater for my husband. This should be good. He can't even decide on a color.

  8. Mmm...rusty orange alpaca...that is SO PRETTY. I also try to keep track of when I start and end projects (I am really, really "detail oriented" when it comes to filling out my Ravelry project pages), usually with a note in my planner. It really bugs me when I forget. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! And I can't wait to hear about those ice cream sandwiches!

  14. Do you know I JUST started writing down the dates I start something? Seriously. Just LAST night! I kid you not. I think it was a ravelry thing... I feel guilty because I never quite remember when I started something. I'm not sure it's something I actually WANT to do, though, what with my propensity for starting things and then leaving them to marinate in a corner, sometimes for a year or two... That will not look good to the ravelry police, I'm sure.

Thanks for the tip on writing down start/finish dates. I will put that into practice along with noting the yarn used and needle size. Wow, that will be so organized of me since most of the time I can't find my car keys...
Love the color, always enjoy your blog space. Just wish you weren't quite so talented woman, it's frustrating me!!

  19. Gorgeous color for your sweater! I've started writing down start dates with Ravelry of course. Before, it was very approximative. Yes, I like to know how much years it took! ;-)

  23. ok two questions:

how do you pick your next sweater?
    and
how do you actually finish so much, do you only knit one project at a time, or have several WIPS going simaltaniously?

  25. I think I would give up altogether if I started writing the dates down - too depressing. Having said that, I am today knitting the last band on a jacket!!!! So far I LOVE it and hope it looks as good on. Will hopefully do a post about it this week.
Love the happy colour you are using!

  26. I love the colour of your sweater. I have only written down start dates for a few projects, maybe because I always have multiple projects on the go and it makes it seem like I take forever to do stuff. wouldn't it be great if there were knitting fairies who could help youout with a few extra rows here and there.

  28. Ice cream sandwiches are a definite cure all against the summer heat. Can't wait to see your finished sweater. I never used to pay attention to the details until I started organizing my Rav page. I like to keep details on how long I spent on my projects too. (More like procrastinate.)

  32. Gorgeous sweater!

Best buttons I've ever found were handmade by knitter / spinner / jewelry maker:

If you don't see buttons, ask. (I'm not connected to this business at all -- I just really loved her buttons!)
