I had a similiar toy when I was a kid. It was a wooden cylinder with a hole that fit over a peg. I spent hours figuring out just how to swing it so I could catch it on the peg.

Kendama is indeed great fun, and extremely addictive! My friend Frida also knits and plays kendama, and she created a knitted kendama cover!
I remember when yo-yos were all the craze at my school in the early 1970's. It got to the point they were banned...I, however, LOVED my yo-yo and still to this day can have fun with it. So glad there is a craze - would love to win so my kids could give it a try.
