Yesterday started with a phone call from my mother that you can never be prepared for.  My sweet father passed away in the night.  My heart broke in a hundred million pieces and feels as though someone is stepping on it.  This was the man that unconditionally shared his heart and love with us.  Who was there for us no matter what.
Tomorrow I will travel to be with my mother and sisters in Florida.  To comfort, grieve and celebrate his life.
Love with all your heart.  It's something you can be proud of.

    Hello Leslie,

I received a call like that from my mom too on a Wednesday morning on October 29th, 2003. My dad just collapsed and was gone. No chance to say goodbye. THe last call from him was on the Saturday evening after the World Series just saying "Be Sure to come for CHristmas. I love you." How would I know Christmas would never ever be the same anymore. I know this is hard. I am an only child. No sisters to be with me. It changes things in a heartbeat. You never stop loving a father and you never forget him either. You just learn to try and take care of yourself and take care of a mother and the family. You see a million things that remind you of a father and think back on a lifetime of memories. You wish you could have told me once more that you loved him. But sometime later, you come to see that your father has not really ever left you. Love does not end. Your father will always be with you. So you carry on and when you do something special, you smile and know that your dad would be proud of you. I know because I have said it so many times. You just don't stop missing them or ever loving a loved father. You remember all those special moments as time goes by and you keep your dad tucked away in your heart. You take care of yourself and know that many people, Leslie, are saying a prayer for your heart to heal.
Peace and love from Teresita in California

Leslie, I'm very sorry for your loss. I don't know you but only from your pictures I can tell, how close your family is. I have lost both of my parents at a very young age, and there is no day that I don't think about them. They are forever in my heart. My prayers are there for you and your family. Martina

  73. Dear Leslie: How ironic I find your lovely site today February 26, 2016. I just sat down from a traumatic day filled with angst, yet thankful for one more day with my truly unique and beautiful father who is 92 and passing away a little more each day. He was a fighter pilot in ww2 and until last week never took a pain pill tho he has has metastatic bone cancer for 3 years...although, you would never have known. Amazingly loving parent who more often than not has been both father and mother and I'm dreading the call I'm so sorry you received. I don't like to even leave his side. I hope at this writing you have endured the shock and gut wrenching feelings and that they are replaced with the beautiful memories you made together. As well as knowing he is still with you...Thank you for sharing and also thank you to all your lovely friends whose comments have brought me solace just by their very caring nature and kind and wise thoughts. Knitters and Crocheters are a wonderful group...naturally caring and giving people... Too bad knitters don't control the world... There would be no hunger, no homeless and certainly no wars... Not to mention that no one would be without warm and cozy belongings and clever toys! God bless, sister! Thank you for sharing your awesome. Creativity!!!!
