an empty bed

I can't even begin to thank you for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers.  I am completely grateful.  I truly have hung onto every word and every bit of hope for Trouble's safe return.  I also would like to apologize for not getting here sooner.  Please know, that as soon as I know anything, I'll  let you know.  I do get to instagram a lot more often than I do here.  And, I will post instantly as soon as I know something there.

Your stories about your pets safe returns have kept me hopeful this past week.  I have loved reading all of your comments.   I can't believe how this is affecting me.  I am completely distracted and consumed with thoughts of her.    It is a bit frustrating that there hasn't been a single sighting.  Hopefully, she is just having a grand time deep in the forest.  We live in a deeply wooded area.  So, finding her could be difficult.  I like to think that an angel will be hiking and at least spot her for us.  Then we can pinpoint a certain location to make the search a little easier.  But right now, she is a teensy, tiny needle in a very large haystack.

I just keep reminding myself how lucky I am to have been given the gift of a pure, unconditional love.

  1. I understand totally how you can't get them off your mind. My cat went missing and I cried every night and could not sleep thinking of her outside and not at home. We did find her, she was skin and bones, but she was safe. Prayers to St Frnacis for a safe return of your beloved pet.

  2. My sister's dog escaped while we were overseas and was roaming for a week before she found her way back home and we had a cat who disappeared for three months before she came waltzing back through our doggy door. Prayers for Trouble to come home soon!

  3. Leslie. Put a blanket or piece of clothing that has your scent on it in a place near the edge of the woods and leave it there. She may come back to it and lay down on the scent

  4. I have been checking this site constantly for word. I have just gone through this very same scenario. I'm sure you have received so many suggestions, but one that someone passed on to me was a good one: the website www.ilostmydoggie.com will do a robo call blitz throughout your area. I was told by someone else that they received quite a few "hits" from this. Also, big, fluorescent posters work better than smaller flyers. Sending all good thoughts for a quick return.

  5. Our beloved Siamese cat disappeared for two weeks. I was unable to even look out into our Manhattan garden...I would sit facing the house not the garden because I kept looking for him. We went to the ASPCA several times about a Siamese picked up a block away..it was never our cat. A full two weeks later he appeared over the wall, his voice hoarse and he was very thirsty and thin, but no injuries. We never discovered where he was. After that experience in 1990, before chips would be inserted, we had him tattooed. This way if he were found we could be contacted. But he stayed close to home and lived to be 21.
I hope your Trouble comes home soon; or someone finds her. Thinking of you.

  7. Leslie, somehow i missed the prior post and am, therefore, quite late in sending you my best and strongest wishes that you and that adorable pup will soon be reunited so that you all may have many more adventures together.

Lisa's comment seems a wise idea.

  9. In this past year there was a dog stolen from our neighbors yard, through social media-yes he got his own FB page he was safely returned to them a little bit lighter but none worse for the wear.
There was also a police dog that got away while being boarded and was loose for 4 months during a bitter freezing winter and was found again a little lighter but OK in the end.
Our area has a fb page for lost animals, I'm sure you've done and checked all these things. I hope she makes it home safe and sound. It's heart wrenching I know.

    All the best- Erika

I know how anxiously you are waiting for a sighting, some sign, anything to indicate that Trouble is, in fact, ok and just having a grand adventure. I've been stalking your Instagram for updates. I do hope she comes home safely soon. g

  11. I am keeping the faith that there is a happy ending to this. I find myself thinking about you & Trouble every day, and whenever I do, I say a little prayer to St. Anthony for Trouble's speedy return. Hugs to you Leslie.

I have prayed to St Francis recently for 2 of my cats too and would recommend the same. Do not feel guilty because you were not home. Had you known this would have happened, you would have been there. I am really sorry as I know the pain this is causing you and your family not knowing. I will keep you in thoughts & prayers.

  15. I'm so sorry Trouble is missing. I know how upsetting losing a pet can be. I have two stories that might give you hope:

When I lived in Washington DC many, many years ago, I took my dog, Tobi, to a friend's party. We left the party once we ran out of beer and went to a local bar. I left Tobi at my friends' house only to find her gone when we returned a few hours later. My boyfriend and I roamed the streets of Washington DC in the very early hours of the morning looking for my beloved dog. Finally at dawn, exhausted and distraught we returned to our apartment and found her sitting on the front step of our building waiting for us! And we had only lived there a few weeks. Dogs are very clever and have amazing noses that help them find their way home.

A few years ago, our much loved cat Emma wandered off and though we searched and put up signs everywhere we couldn't find her. I was heartbroken. Three months later, we got a call that someone in the next town over (at least 5 miles from our house) had been feeding her. They took her to a local vet who scanned her and found her microchip and we were re-united that very day.

I wish you and your family the very best and hope Trouble finds his way back to you very soon!

I've been checking your blog several times a day hoping against hope that you'd report good news. I think many of us have experienced the same thing and I'm hoping she'll find her way back to you soon. Cindy
